Job Description
The Head of Credit leads and oversees the Credit Evaluators (CEs) and Credit Investigators (CIs) in end-to-end loan application processing. This role is responsible for driving team performance, maintaining strict risk assessment standards, and optimizing turnaround times across both uncollateralized (clean) and real estate mortgage (secured/REM) loan portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Operational Management
- Directly supervise, mentor, and evaluate the performance of Credit Evaluators (CES) and Credit Investigators (CIs).
- Establish daily workflow targets, monitor application pipelines, and ensure strict adherence to SLA turnaround times for both clean and secured loans.
- Conduct regular quality audits on credit investigation reports and evaluation sheets to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and compliance with company policies.
- Credit Assessment & Underwriting
- Assess risk parameters for clean loans (unsecured exposure, behavioral scoring, character assessment, and income stability
- Review and approve/recommend loan applications within established credit authority limits for both clean and REM-backed loans
- Analyze complex financial statements, capacity-to-pay models, and risk profiles for higher-ticket secured loan applications.
- Verify title authenticity, encumbrance checks, property valuation reports, and collateral viability alongside CIs for all REM transactions.
Policy, Governance & Risk MitigationReporting & Continuous Improvement
- Continuous refinement of underwriting guidelines, credit scoring models, and field investigation protocols for both loan categories.
- Identify fraud patterns, systemic risks, and operational bottlenecks, implementing proactive preventive measures.
- Collaborate with legal and property appraisal teams to ensure clean titles, proper mortgage annotations, and legally sound loan documentation.
- Generate weekly and monthly credit quality, approval rate, approval-to-release ratio, and delinquency metrics for executive leadership.
- Streamline processes between credit evaluation, field investigation, sales/origination, and loan release departments.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years in credit evaluation and investigation within banking, financing, or microfinance sectors, with at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
- Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of both unsecured (clean) lending products and real estate mortgage (REM) loan underwriting, title verification, and appraisal processes.
- Technical Skills: Strong financial analysis capabilities, risk modeling, and proficiency in loan management software.
- Leadership: Proven track record of managing field investigators and credit analysts to meet operational SLAs without compromising risk standards.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Banking, or a related field.
